Jets Add to Their Offensive Line in NFL Draft: Selecting Penn State’s Olu Fashanu

Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu drafted by the Jets

On Thursday night, the New York Jets made a significant move in the NFL draft, selecting Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu with the 11th pick after trading down one spot. The Jets sent the No. 10 overall selection to the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. In return, the Jets received the 11th overall pick along with a fourth-rounder and a fifth-rounder.

The addition of Fashanu to the Jets’ offensive line will provide depth and insurance in case of injuries to key players like Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, both of whom are in their 30s and have injury histories. At 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, Fashanu is a potential long-term option at tackle for future seasons.

General manager Joe Douglas has been focused on upgrading the Jets’ offensive line in free agency, bringing in veterans like Smith, Moses, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, and Alijah Vera-Tucker. These signings give the team a solid foundation for success this season and beyond.

With Rodgers as their star quarterback, the Jets are committed to providing him with the best possible protection to help him lead the team to success. The addition of Fashanu is just one more piece of that puzzle as they work to solidify their offensive line for years to come.
