Georgia City Takes a Proactive Approach to Road Safety with Cutting-Edge Technology

Testing new technology in Peachtree Corners to enhance cyclist safety on roads

Peachtree Corners, Georgia is a busy city with over 62,000 cars passing through daily. The city sees up to 600 bicyclists crossing the busy roadway each Saturday. With this high volume of traffic and pedestrians on the road, it’s no wonder that the city views anyone not in a vehicle as a “vulnerable road user.”

Assistant City Manager Brandon Branham highlighted the concerning statistics of 1,000 cyclist deaths and 130,000 injuries in crashes across the country annually. He emphasized the need for technology to enhance safety at intersections for all road users.

The city’s Curiosity Lab serves as a testing ground for cutting-edge technology, including equipment that alerts cyclists and drivers to potential collisions. One such tool being tested is the Spoke Companion App, which enables cyclists and drivers to see each other on the road. This technology aims to prevent injuries and fatalities by providing real-time information about each other’s location and speed.

Peachtree Corners is committed to protecting all road users and making their streets safer for everyone. By leveraging advanced tools like the Spoke Companion App and digital signage, they hope to see a decrease in fatalities and an increase in overall road safety. As Branham puts it, “We want to make sure that everyone on our roads is safe.”
