Exploring the Depths of STEAM: Kansas Science Festival Attracts Over 5,000 People Despite Inclement Weather

Kids can learn from a variety of STEAM activities at the Kansas Science Festival

The Kansas Science Festival took place today in downtown Manhattan, attracting a crowd of over 5,000 people. The event featured 150 presenters in 50 booths showcasing a wide range of activities related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Participants from institutions such as K-State and NBAF offered hands-on experiences like paper microscopes, exploration of Kansas’s native fish, and biophysics.

The festival aimed to engage people of all ages in learning about science and technology. Phillip Shults, the program coordinator for the Kansas Science Festival, emphasized the importance of getting both kids and parents excited about science. “We want everyone to leave with something valuable,” he said. “Whether it’s a new understanding of science or simply an appreciation for what’s happening around us.”

Despite some inclement weather conditions, the festival was a huge success thanks to strong community support. Many attendees expressed their gratitude to the organizers and sponsors for providing such an educational and fun-filled day. “This is amazing!” said one attendee as they explored a booth on solar energy. “I can’t wait to come back next year!”
