Spectacular Wildlife Images Featured in the 2024 World Nature Photography Awards

In recent news, the CNN editorial series, Call to Earth, has teamed up with Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative to raise awareness about environmental challenges and inspire positive action. Meanwhile, the World Nature Photography Awards have announced a winner for an incredible photo of two gannets fighting for a fish off Scotland’s Shetland Islands. The winning image by Tracey Lund captured this intense moment and was selected from thousands of submissions to receive a $1,000 prize.

Lund took the photo while on vacation using a DSLR camera in a waterproof housing that she lowered into the sea. The image showcases thousands of gannets diving into the sea to catch fish, creating a spectacular sight that Lund was fortunate to capture. The World Nature Photography Awards included various categories such as animal portraits, plants and fungi, invertebrate, amphibian, reptile, and mammal behavior.

In addition to these categories, the awards also focused on promoting photography and supporting the planet by planting a tree for each entry to the competition. According to the organization, photography can influence people to see the world differently and change their habits for the planet’s benefit. Adrian Dinsdale, co-founder of the WNPAs expressed joy in seeing the outstanding quality of entries for the 2024 awards and how these images continue to be breathtaking.

The World Nature Photography Awards were launched in 2020 with a focus on promoting photography and supporting the planet by planting a tree for each entry to the competition. The awards continue to inspire photographers around the world to capture stunning images that highlight our planet’s beauty while also raising awareness about important environmental issues.
