Slovakia Dominates as Great Britain Women’s Ice Hockey Team Falls 7-1 in World Championship

In the Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Latvia, Great Britain suffered a tough 7-1 loss against Slovakia in Division 1 Group B. Despite Katie Marsden’s best efforts, GB fell behind early as Slovakia quickly took control of the game and scored two goals in Riga.

Despite this setback, Marsden managed to bring some hope to GB with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner, leaving the opening period with a score of 2-1 in Slovakia’s favor. However, Slovakia continued to dominate throughout the match, scoring four more goals in the middle period to extend their lead. They even added a seventh goal in the final minute of play, securing a convincing victory over GB.

Ema Galisova led Slovakia’s scoring efforts with two goals. Marsden was recognized as GB’s player of the game for her impressive performance, while Slovakia’s goaltender, Andrea Risianova, received praise for her exceptional saves during the final period.

GB is now five points behind Slovakia in the standings and has one win, one loss, and one overtime loss under their belt after three matches. The top team from Group B will be promoted to Division 1 Group A. Up next for GB is a game against Slovenia on Friday followed by their final match against hosts Latvia on Saturday.
