Bridging the Technology Gap: Deonte Thompson’s St. Pete Strong Initiative Empowers Youth and Community Members

Deonte Thompson makes a difference with his passion for technology

Deonte Thompson, a native of South St. Petersburg, has always been passionate about technology and using it to make a positive impact on the world. Growing up, Thompson was heavily involved in sports, playing youth football and basketball for Boca Ciega High School. One day, while walking through an alley on his way to basketball practice at the Childs Park Community Center, he stumbled upon an abandoned television that sparked his interest in technology. This moment led him to pursue a degree in electrical engineering and eventually become an executive for a computer company in Texas.

Despite living far away, Thompson returns to St. Petersburg every chance he gets to give back to his hometown. Through his Dream Faith Foundation, he established a computer lab at the Childs Park Community Center that provides students with a space to do homework and adults with resources for job searches. He emphasizes the importance of technology in today’s world and is committed to ensuring that no one in the community is left behind.

Thompson’s local efforts are known as “St. Pete Strong,” and he hosts conferences in St. Petersburg and other locations to empower young people with the skills they need for success. He also works closely with the robotics club at Gibbs High School, where students recently built a four-wheeled robotic vehicle that won an award in Tallahassee. Thompson values the sense of community and wants to ensure that future generations have the support and resources they need to thrive.

Overall, Deonte Thompson’s dedication to using technology as a tool for positive change in his community is truly inspiring
