Hemisfair Reveals New Design Plan for Tower of the Americas Grounds with Basketball Court Pavilion

Hemisfair requests approval for design of sports pavilion near Tower of the Americas

San Antonio’s Hemisfair organization has proposed a new design plan for the Tower of the Americas grounds, which includes constructing a “Sports Court” pavilion in place of the current pond at the base of the structure. The pavilion will be funded by philanthropic support and is part of the planned Tower Park, which aligns with public feedback received highlighting the need for public recreation spaces.

Hemisfair unveiled the first phase of Civic Park last year, adding green space to the grounds west of the tower. The proposed pavilion will replace the existing pond, which Hemisfair notes has had a negative impact due to unpleasant odors.

Renderings of the project have not yet been made available, but the pavilion will feature a concrete slab mostly painted for a basketball court. It will also have a 28-foot oval roof to cover the pavilion with overhang for onlookers. The space will be available for community events and rental opportunities.
