Despite Terror Threats, Cricket West Indies CEO Reassures Safety Measures for Upcoming T20 World Cup

Report warns of terrorist threat to T20 World Cup in West Indies originating from North Pakistan

Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Jonny Graves has reassured the public that safety measures are in place for the upcoming T20 World Cup, despite receiving a terror threat from North Pakistan. The threats come from pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources and urge supporters to join the battlefield in their countries. Despite this, CWI works closely with authorities in host countries and continuously monitors global events to ensure appropriate security plans are in place.

Reports of potential threats have also appeared in Caribbean media, with Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley discussing security agencies’ plans to address any threats to matches. Additionally, regional security officials in Barbados are monitoring potential threats to the tournament. Intelligence of a potential threat has been received through Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) via the media group ‘Nashir Pakistan.’

The T20 World Cup matches are scheduled to be held in several Caribbean islands, including Barbados, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Despite these concerns, efforts are being made to ensure the safety and security of all involved in the tournament.
