Urgent Call for Military Aid in the Face of Russian Invasion: US Officials Urge Congress to Act Fast

US and Ukraine Foreign Ministers stress the urgency of aid package – DW – 04/18/2024

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba are urging Congress to pass a new military aid package for Ukraine in its fight against a Russian invasion. Kuleba emphasized the urgent need for Congress to pass the supplemental aid package for Ukraine, which has been blocked by Republicans.

Blinken emphasized the urgency of providing Ukraine with the necessary support to defend itself effectively against Russian aggression. He stated that it is in the US’ best interests to ensure Ukraine’s ability to resist the Russian assault, as Putin may not stop at Ukraine if allowed to proceed with impunity.

The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting on the island of Capri is set to discuss support for Ukraine, with the US House of Representatives planning to vote on new military aid, including $61 billion in support for Ukraine, on Saturday. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the need for international assistance to counter the Russian invasion remains a top priority for both US and Ukrainian officials.
