Tim Pernetti, Experienced Sports Executive to Consider for American Athletic Conference Commissioner Job

Sources indicate that AAC is considering sports executive Tim Pernetti for the role of next commissioner

The American Athletic Conference is currently in talks to hire Tim Pernetti as their next commissioner, according to sources. With a wealth of experience in college sports, television, and Major League Soccer, Pernetti is expected to take over for Mike Aresco, who retired as the only commissioner in the conference’s history.

Pernetti has a strong background in college athletics, having served as the athletic director at Rutgers before resigning due to a controversial incident. However, his experience in television and Major League Soccer make him a strong candidate for the commissioner role. In fact, his blend of skills and experience makes him an ideal choice for the job.

The AAC has undergone significant changes recently with the addition of schools like Rice, UTSA, and North Texas. The conference currently has a television contract with ESPN through the 2031-32 academic year. With his extensive background in all aspects of sports management, Pernetti is well-suited to lead the conference through its continued growth and success.
