Steward Health Care Sells Its Physician Network to Optum Care in Quest for Financial Rescue

UnitedHealth acquires doctor network from Steward Health Care

Steward Health Care, a hospital operator facing financial difficulties, has recently made the decision to sell its nationwide physician network to Optum Care, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth. This move is part of Steward’s plan to strengthen its national system of 33 hospitals and address the financial challenges it faced last year.

The proposed sale involves the doctors group known as Stewardship Health, which was officially filed with the state’s Health Policy Commission on Tuesday by Collaborative Care Holdings, LLC. While the documents filed did not reveal a specific price tag for the sale, Optum officials declined immediate comment on the matter. If successful, this potential acquisition by Optum Care could provide a much-needed financial boost for Steward Health Care as it continues to navigate its ongoing financial challenges.
