Six Alabama Swimmers and Divers Named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

Six athletes from Alabama Swimming and Diving honored on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

The Alabama swimming and diving team recently had six members named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. Bernardo Bondra de Almeida, Mackenzie Brandt, Tim Korstanje, Jake Marcum, Diana Petkova, and Kailyn Winter were recognized for their academic and athletic achievements, representing the Crimson Tide as all-district honorees.

All six honorees have impressive GPAs, with Mackenzie Brandt holding a perfect 4.0 in communicative disorders. Diana Petkova and Jake Marcum earned the honor for the second consecutive year, having been named to the all-district team in 2023. Bernardo Bondra de Almeida, Mackenzie Brandt, Tim Korstanje, and Kailyn Winter were first-time recipients of the all-district honor in their careers.

Kailyn Winter finished the season as a two-time Second Team All-America honoree, excelling in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Diana Petkova also secured All-America honors at the NCAA Championships as a member of the 200 freestyle relay team. On the men’s side, Tim Korstanje helped lead the 400 freestyle relay team to Second Team All-America honors at the national meet.

Jake Marcum competed in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events at the NCAA Championships and placed ninth in the 200 backstroke at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Mackenzie Brandt achieved a season-best time of 16:16.97 in the mile at the SEC Championships, finishing eighth overall in the event.
