Predictions for the 2024 MLB Playoffs: AL and NL Standings and a Clash of West Coast Teams

Our model predicts the winner, playoff odds, and win-loss records for the 2024 World Series champion

Our model predicted that the 2024 baseball season would see an Astros/Dodgers World Series, with a strong presence of west coast teams in both the American League (AL) and National League (NL) playoffs. The projected win-loss records for all 30 MLB teams were used to set up standings for each division, leading to the seeding of six teams for the playoffs, with the best team moving on to the next round.

In the AL East, it was forecasted that the Boston Red Sox would take the top spot, closely followed by the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. In the AL Central, it was expected that Chicago White Sox would lead, with Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals also making it to postseason. The AL West was predicted to be dominated by Houston Astros, with Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics joining them in playoffs.

On NL side, Atlanta Braves were forecasted as division winners in NL East, followed by Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets in postseason. Milwaukee Brewers were projected as NL Central division winners, with St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds also making it to playoffs. The NL West was expected to have Los Angeles Dodgers as division winners, with San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres also earning playoff spots.

In terms of representation in postseason matchups between AL and NL teams, Houston Astors, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners were expected from AL while Los Angeles Dodgers
