New QBs Line Up for Steelers in 2023: A Closer Look at Kyle Allen and His Chances of Rising to the Top

Steelers continue quarterback makeover by adding third option to lineup alongside Russell Wilson and Justin Fields

The Pittsburgh Steelers have undergone significant changes to their quarterback room this offseason. After trading Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, the team saw Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph sign with new teams. In their place, the Steelers brought in Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos and acquired Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round pick.

Recently, the Steelers added a third quarterback, Kyle Allen, who spent the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bills. Allen went undrafted in 2018 out of Houston and started 13 games for the Carolina Panthers in his first two NFL seasons. He then played for the Washington Football Team in 2020 before signing with the Houston Texans in 2022. Throughout his NFL career, Allen has played in a total of 30 games, 19 of which he started, with 4,734 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.

As of now, Allen is considered the third-string quarterback for the Steelers. However, head coach Mike Tomlin has stated that competition will be fierce as they prepare for the upcoming season. While Wilson is currently leading for the starting position, there will be plenty of contenders vying for it before opening day rolls around.

The changes made to their quarterback room have left many fans excited about what’s to come for this storied franchise next year. With Wilson’s arrival and Fields’ potential upside at backup QB spot behind him, there are plenty of reasons why fans are looking forward to watching them lead this team to success on and off the field.
