NBA Investigates Raptors’ Jontay Porter for Suspected Betting Irregularities

NBA Investigating Jontay Porter of the Raptors for Betting Irregularities: Report

The NBA is currently investigating Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for suspected betting irregularities. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the matter, stating that Porter was withheld from the lineup for the Raptors’ matchup against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. The league confirmed to ESPN that they are actively investigating the situation.

The investigation is specifically looking into two recent games where there was unusual betting activity related to Porter’s prop bets. In a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 26, Porter played only four minutes and left the game due to an eye injury. Despite not attempting a 3-pointer, he recorded no points, three rebounds, and one assist. This resulted in all four prop bet categories under hitting on Porter’s 3-pointers, which proved to be a significant win for bettors through DraftKings Sportsbook.

Another game under scrutiny is when the Raptors faced the Phoenix Suns on March 20. Porter played just three minutes before being ruled out due to illness, registering no points, two rebounds, and one missed shot. Once again, all prop bet categories for Porter hit under on his performance that night through DraftKings Sportsbook.

Porter did not participate in the Raptors’ game against the Washington Wizards over the weekend or versus the Nets due to undisclosed reasons. NBA regulations strictly prohibit players and all league employees from betting on any NBA games or engaging in any form of prop betting.

Jontay Porter is currently in his debut season with the Raptors on a two-way contract. He has averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 26 games this season. Prior to joining the Raptors, he made his NBA debut with Memphis Grizzlies in 2020 but did not play in the league for two consecutive seasons after that point.

The investigation into Porter’s suspected betting irregularities continues as he remains sidelined from basketball action at this time.
