From Video Game Adventures to Theme Park Thrills: The Dragon Ball Z Phenomenon in Saudi Arabia

The first Dragon Ball Z theme park in the world is being constructed in Saudi Arabia.

In 2019, at the Gamescom gaming trade fair in Cologne, Germany, visitors were able to try out the latest version of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. The popular video game franchise drew in crowds eager to experience the newest features and gameplay elements. Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, plans were being made for the development of the first-ever Dragon Ball Z theme park. This 5.3 million square foot entertainment venue was part of the kingdom’s Qiddiya project, an ambitious undertaking aimed at enhancing tourism and diversifying the economy.

The Dragon Ball Z theme park will feature seven different areas inspired by locations from the original anime series. With over 30 themed rides, including five world-first attractions, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the world of Dragon Ball Z like never before. One standout ride, the Shenron roller coaster, will soar to heights of 230 feet, providing an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers.

In addition to the theme park, a collaboration between Japan-based manga producer Toei Animation and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s foundation, MiSK, is set to create anime movies that will captivate audiences worldwide. The kingdom’s investment in video games and anime reflects a growing interest in these forms of entertainment.
