Ferrari and SK On Join Forces to Push Battery Cell Technology Forward in a Quest for Sustainable Transportation

Ferrari and SK On Collaborate to Revolutionize Battery Technology

In a significant move towards transitioning its lineup to electric and hybrid vehicles, Ferrari S.p.A. has partnered with SK On Co., the fifth-largest electric vehicle battery producer in the world. The partnership aims to enhance innovation in battery cell technology as Ferrari prepares to launch its first fully electric vehicle next year. A memorandum of understanding was signed by the two companies on Tuesday to signal their commitment to sharing expertise and increasing cooperation in leading global battery cell technology innovation.

Recent reports indicate that Ferrari plans to introduce its first electric vehicle in the final quarter of 2025, with a new plant set to open in Maranello, Italy in June. The plant will produce electric motors, battery packs, and power inverters, supporting Ferrari’s goal of transitioning about 60% of its lineup to be split between fully electric and hybrid cars by 2026. This strategic partnership with SK On is a crucial step towards achieving this goal, solidifying SK On’s position as Ferrari’s main battery supplier for electric vehicles.

SK On has been providing cells for Ferrari’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) since 2019, including models such as the SF90 Stradale, SF90 Spider, 296 GTB, and 296 GTS. Even limited-edition models like the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider from last year are equipped with batteries supplied by SK On. This partnership further strengthens SK On’s position as a leading provider of battery technology for luxury automakers like Ferrari.

The collaboration between these two companies signifies their shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of automotive technology. With their combined expertise and resources, they are well positioned to lead global innovation in battery cell technology and pave the way for a more sustainable future in transportation.

In conclusion, this strategic partnership between Ferrari S.p.A. and SK On Co., aimed at enhancing innovation in battery cell technology
