Falcons Cut Pay of Backup QB Taylor Heinicke Ahead of 2024 Season, Still Expected to be Number Two on Depth Chart

Taylor Heinicke renegotiates contract with Falcons to take pay cut

The Falcons recently announced that backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke would be receiving a pay cut for the upcoming 2024 season. Initially, he was set to earn a base salary of $5 million, but this has since been reduced to $1.21 million. Despite this reduction, Heinicke did receive a bonus of $1.32 million after the start of the new league year. Additionally, $40,000 in per-game roster bonuses were removed from his contract, resulting in over $4 million in cap savings for the Falcons.

With the recent trade of Desmond Ridder, the Falcons are now down to just two quarterbacks on their roster. It is likely that they will add another quarterback in the near future to fill this gap. Despite these changes to his contract, Heinicke is still expected to remain as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart for the Falcons this season.
