Ex-Rutgers AD Pernetti Takes on New Role as AAC Commissioner in Upcoming Football Season

As the American Athletic Conference (AAC) prepares for the upcoming football season, it is set to welcome new members while bidding farewell to others. The conference has announced that it will hire former Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti as its next commissioner, according to sources familiar with the move.

Pernetti, a New Jersey native and former Rutgers football player, currently serves as the president of IMG Academy in Florida. He previously held the role of athletic director at Rutgers from 2009-2013, during which he played a key role in securing the school’s membership in the Big Ten conference. However, Pernetti resigned from his position at Rutgers in 2013 after a scandal involving the abuse of players by the men’s basketball coach.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that the AAC had set its sights on Pernetti as the frontrunner for the position. The deal has not been officially announced yet, but it is in the final stages of completion. As Commissioner of AAC , Pernetti will oversee all aspects of running this Conference which is evolving rapidly .
