Closing Down: The Legacy of Harvey Slarskey’s Beloved Store, Tatnuck Meats Market

Tatnuck Meat & Seafood shuts its doors in Worcester after half a century

In 1972, Harvey Slarskey founded the beloved local store known as Tatnuck Meats Market. Over the next 50 years, he built a reputation for his high-quality products and exceptional customer service. The store was a fixture in the Worcester community and catered mostly to customers in the nearby Tatnuck area.

Harvey’s son Michael stepped in to help with the business three years ago when his father’s health began to decline. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to reverse the decline in business that had been affecting them for years. With a heavy heart, Michael announced that they would be permanently closing their doors on January 31st.

The store was known for its wide range of meat and seafood options, and it was said that Harvey built relationships with customers on a first-name basis. In 2011, they expanded their product offerings to include seafood and became known as Tatnuck Meat and Seafood. Slarskey was dedicated to his business and often arrived at work hours before the store opened to ensure the quality of their products. He prided himself on the few complaints they had received over their 40 years of operation.

As many customers expressed gratitude for their many years of business, Michael acknowledged that reaching 50 years is quite an accomplishment. However, he also understood why it was time for them to close down their beloved store. The decision was not made lightly but it was necessary due to declining business and health issues faced by longtime owner Harvey Slarskey
