Chicago Blackhawks, NBC Sports Chicago and NHL Collaborate to Create a First-Ever Animated Game to Attract Younger Audience

Blackhawks and NBC Sports Chicago Collaborate on First Local Animated Sports Telecast, Set to Air on April 6

The Chicago Blackhawks, NBC Sports Chicago and the NHL are teaming up to create a first-ever local animated game that aims to attract a younger generation of fans. Jaime Faulkner, President of Business Operations for the Chicago Blackhawks, stated that the collaboration is an effort to introduce Blackhawks fandom to new audiences through engaging content.

The animated presentation on NBCSCH+ will feature popular broadcast talent such as Chris Vosters as play-by-play announcer, Dominic Moore providing in-game analysis, and Adam Burish and Tony Granato covering studio content during intermissions. The project aims to provide a unique viewing experience for families and younger fans by showcasing the sport in a new way.

John Schippman, VP of Sports Content at NBCUniversal Local Chicago expressed his excitement about the opportunity to merge the talents of NBC Sports Chicago, the Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL to create this innovative telecast. By leveraging NHL EDGE positional data and Hawk-Eye Innovations optical tracking, the presentation will bring the action on the ice to life in real-time, featuring Blackhawks mascot Tommy Hawk and other characters in a fun setting at United Center.

In addition to the animated presentation, NBC Sports Chicago will also air a traditional game telecast with WGN Radio 720’s John Wiedeman handling play-by-play duties and Darren Pang providing expert game analysis. This dual broadcast approach allows fans of all ages to enjoy
