Breaking Down the Labor Market Crisis: The Controversy Between Romakkaniemi and Kokko

Central Chamber of Commerce board responds to CEO’s social media feud with AKT

On Monday, the Central Chamber of Commerce board issued a statement regarding the labor market situation following a message from CEO Juho Romakkaniemi that angered the AKT. The organization, usually quiet in labor market disputes, commented on the crisis-ridden situation after the dispute between Romakkaniemi and Ismo Kokko, chairman of the AKT union.

The controversy began when Romakkaniemi urged SAK members to resign from their union and join the General Unemployment Fund in a message. This led to a response from Kokko, stating that the union would end its banking relationship with the OP group, where Romakkaniemi serves as CEO. Despite no official decision had been made on the termination of cooperation, tensions continued to rise between the parties.

In response, Ritakallio, CEO of the OP group, emphasized the importance of finding a solution to the situation while stressing the need for trust and economic growth in building a stable future for Finland. The Central Chamber of Commerce board also emphasized respecting every employee’s right and freedom to organize or not as they wish while highlighting maintaining a culture of agreement in future labor market discussions. Despite social media disputes between Romakkaniemi and Kokko, both organizations chose to focus on broader labor market issues at hand.
