Bears Acquire Keenan Allen: Adding Firepower to Young QB’s Arsenal

Ryan Poles deems Keenan Allen as “a flawless match”

Earlier this month, the Bears made a significant move by trading for receiver Keenan Allen, adding another weapon to their offense for the upcoming season. The team’s personnel staff had been monitoring Allen as a potential cap casualty and when the opportunity arose and he became available, the Bears were prepared to seize it.

Chicago G.M. Ryan Poles reflected on his time in K.C. watching Allen make impressive plays and stated that the tape of Allen’s recent performances surprised him with the high level at which he is still playing despite his age. Even though Allen only played 13 games last season, he achieved a career-high with 108 catches, 1,243 yards (the second most in his career), and seven touchdowns. Poles emphasized that adding Allen presents a fantastic opportunity for the team as they move forward with a young quarterback.

Allen is the perfect fit for the team, especially given his understanding of the NFL, timing, space, and ability to read defenses, which will greatly benefit a young quarterback. With Allen joining receiver DJ Moore, tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett, and running back D’Andre Swift, Poles sees a balanced field with a lot of potential for dynamic and special plays in the upcoming season.
