Man arrested in Jacksonville for fatal shooting of business owner, identified as ex-boyfriend

On Monday afternoon, a man wanted for first-degree murder was arrested in Jacksonville. Tevin Montrell Leach, 30, was apprehended around 2:30 p.m. The Apex Police Department had been searching for Leach in connection with the murder of Felicia Barbee-Battle, 30, outside her place of business, Molly Maid.

On March 25, 2024, at 8:23 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Beaver Creek Commons Dr in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found Barbee-Battle on the ground outside Molly Maid, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators discovered that the suspect in the shooting was Tevin Montrell Leach, who had previously been to the business and was known to the workers as Barbee-Battle’s ex-boyfriend. On the day of the shooting, Leach entered the business and convinced Barbee-Battle to go outside with him. Moments later, gunshots rang out, leading to her untimely death.

An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Tevin Montrell Leach. He was taken into custody by the Jacksonville police department without incident at 2:30 p.m., ending a weeklong manhunt by authorities
