AI Battle Heats Up: Musk Takes on OpenAI with ChatGPT Rival and Attracts Tesla Engineers

Engineers from Tesla are Allegedly Leaving to Join Elon Musk’s AI Startup

Elon Musk’s xAI has recently launched a chatbot named Grok in an effort to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT. According to reports, Tesla engineers have been leaving the electric car company to join Musk’s AI startup, xAI. Since its launch last summer, three former Tesla engineers have made the move to join the AI company.

One of the engineers who left Tesla for xAI is Ethan Knight, a machine learning scientist who previously worked on computer vision for Tesla’s self-driving technology. The news of Knight’s departure sparked controversy when Musk accused OpenAI of aggressively recruiting Tesla engineers with high compensation offers. In response, Musk raised salaries for members of Tesla’s AI engineering team.

The tech industry is facing fierce competition for AI talent and Musk has been vocal about wanting greater control over Tesla’s AI strategy. In a post on X in January, Musk expressed discomfort with expanding Tesla’s AI and robotics capabilities without controlling a quarter of the voting bloc. These comments were seen as an ultimatum by some investors and sparked debate within the industry.

Overall, Musk’s efforts to gain more control over Tesla’s AI strategy have raised eyebrows and sparked debate within the industry.
